TV Imitates Life These Days

Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Honourable Woman.
I’m enthralled with the plot of Sundance/BBC TV’s The Honourable Woman, even though it would take me a second complete viewing of the 8-part mini-series to understand most of it. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of Nessa Stein, a British-Israeli baroness who tries, in her own way, to use her family’s power, money and influence to bring peace to the middle east, is remarkable–as are performances of the remainder of the cast. Don’t watch this series if you’re squeamish or tend to become easily frustrated because you’ll probably never know the whole story, which mirrors this region’s political climate perfectly.
