Because I have quasi-Polish roots (annexation maps shift my ancestral home between Poland and Austria), I’m allowed to make cultural comments. This week, I learned it’s never a good idea to buy hummus made by someone named Basia. I strayed from Sabra and Tribe out of curiosity and didn’t notice the “hommus” spelling until I got the container home and realized the name triggered thoughts of early man: Hommus pitus (get out the pita, we’re having hummus). It’s my fault. I can’t resist new things. In the future, I’ll check brands more closely and limit Polish food purchases to pierogis.
